Practice Areas

Bio

Ms. Donaldson has been practicing in the areas of elder law and estate planning for over ten years. Her practice consists of advising clients on the complex issues encountered in access to public benefits, particularly long-term care Medicaid planning. In addition, Emily assists clients with designing and structuring their estate plans, keeping an eye on cost-efficient approaches to meeting their needs. She has counseled numerous families with special needs children through the complex legal and financial issues raised by the impairment. Many times, these issues require the appointment of a guardian and conservator, as well as trust creation and administration. She is a frequent author and speaker on these and other issues affecting the aged and individuals with disabilities.

Emily spends her spare time volunteering with community activities and professional associations. She is the President of the Kansas chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, www.naela.org; and the President of the Kansas Bar Association’s Elder Law Section. She serves as the chair of the Douglas County Senior Services Center, Inc., a Lawrence non-profit whose mission is to provide services to seniors which allow them to live independently.
